Caernarfon Airport is located in the heart of Snowdonia, operating scenic & training flights all year round. With an on-site aviation museum, Cafe, home to the Wales Air Ambulance & the HM Coastguard Helicopters operated by Bristow. The airport was originally opened in 1941 & known as RAF Llandwrog. The base was primarily used for training gunners, radio operators & navigators & later was the home for the RAF Mountain Rescue.

Wind Turbine Information For Visiting Pilots

Runway 02/20 at Caernarfon is now permanently unlicensed due to the installation of two 152’ AMSL wind turbines approximately half way down the runway, 30 meters from the runway edge.

An information pack for all visiting pilots can be downloaded below.

Runway 02/20 can be used on the understanding of the conditions of use & also with advance permission granted from the airport manager.

Notice To Pilots – Wake Turbulence

CAUTION: Wake Turbulence associated with the two home-based S92 Helicopters The wake turbulence requirements for light aircraft is an absolute minimum of a 4 mile separation following an S92 Helicopter in the air & a minimum of 3 minutes separation for light aircraft wishing to depart behind an arriving or departing S92 Helicopter.
