The Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre (VoWHGC) is based at Sandhill Farm in the beautiful Vale of White Horse in Oxfordshire. If you are interested in trying gliding, we accept British Gliding Association vouchers, the link for which is https://www.gliding.co.uk/ . Alternatively, feel free to visit us on any weekend we are flying.

VoWHGC offers novices and experienced glider pilots the chance to fly in a beautiful part of the country where there is excellent thermal activity and the potential for extensive cross-country flights.
Please take a look around our Web site to get a better idea of who we are, what we offer, and any special events that are planned. We also have a Frequently Asked Questions page, and we always welcome emails and phone calls with specific questions. Details on how to get hold of us are shown on our Contacts page.

Club Profile

VoWHGC is a member of the British Gliding Association and we observe their strict operational regulations. This means our gliders are subject to annual Certificate of Airworthiness tests and daily inspections; and that our instructors are properly trained and qualified.
The airfield is about 2.5 miles north east of Swindon on the B4000 Shrivenham to Highworth road. The club flies at weekends and Bank Holidays and visitors are always welcome.
The club has around 25 members and operates a modern glass Twin Astir 2-seat glider, a single-seat Astir, along with numerous privately owned gliders. We operate an aerotow launch system, that is the launching of gliders via a tow by a powered aircraft.
In addition to our normal flying activities various special events are arranged such as additional weekday flying, soaring courses, and social events.

Services

Airfield: The Sandhill Farm site consists of a grass strip about 900 yards long, varying in width between about 150 and 400 yards.

Launch Facilities & Clubhouse: This includes a briefing room, and basic kitchen and toilet facilities – plus most importantly a heater and kettle!

Hangar: The club gliders and tug are housed rigged in the club’s hangar. Lack of space means that there is not normally room to put privately owned gliders in the hangar overnight.

Trailer Parking: There is ample room for trailer parking in a sheltered part of the airfield close to the clubhouse.

Security: Access to the airfield is via a locked gate. All facilities are secured and alarmed.
