Welshpool Mid Wales Airport lies in the beautiful Severn valley & is on the edge of some of the most stunning open flying country anywhere in the UK.

Developed from a grass strip in the 1990s, the airport is now a home for numerous business & light aircraft. It is also the base for the The Mid Wales Air Ambulance. Here you can get lessons & gain a licence flying helicopters, fixed wing aircraft & microlights. You could also just come along & watch the comings & goings of a busy general aviation hub.

We have a café which is open Wednesday to Sunday not Monday & Tuesday serving hot & cold drinks & snacks.

Services

Welshpool, Mid-Wales Airport, lies in the Severn valley, about two miles south of Welshpool town. The airport was converted from a grass strip in 1990 to today’s full tarmac runway 1,020m long.

The Airport provides a range of commercial air services as well as an excellent General Aviation service for visitors & locally-based aircraft.

The canteen is staffed weekends, serving all-day breakfasts, panini, burgers, soups & much more. On weekdays, it’s self-service with vending machines (hot & cold drinks & snacks, plus always selection of cakes).

Facilities

The 1020 meter tarmac runway includes lighting, activated by prior arrangement. Customs facilities are also available.

The airport buildings include a café, a briefing room & detailed weather information. The hangarage has been continually expanded & upkept to ensure the highest convenience for users.

Both Avgas & Jet A1 are on tap at competitive rates.

We have a limited amount of hangarage available at Welshpool with immediate availability. It is modern, of excellent quality & available for very reasonable rates.

Shooting Season

This year’s shooting season is on its way & Mid-Wales Airport is there for those who want to enjoy it in style.

The nearby Bettws Hall shoot is world-renowned & attracts those looking for the finest experiences. Equally acclaimed are the Llechweddygarth & Three Valleys shoots, where the beautiful scenery is harnessed to provide some of the country’s finest pheasant shooting. Powis Estates are also near-by, offering shoots in the grounds of Powis Castle. Helicopters & fixed-wing aircraft bring passengers from across Europe to just a short ride from the shooting lodges.

Aircraft can be parked overnight, refuelled & prepared so that they can depart immediately once guests arrive at the airport. Charter helicopters based at Welshpool can even take passengers on the last leg of their journey.
