The Gliders and Motor Gliders Flying at Husbands Bosworth

The Gliding Centre started life in 1953 as Coventry Gliding Club, flying from Baginton, before buying land at Husbands Bosworth at auction in 1963 and moving there in 1965. The site itself dates back further still, built in 1943 as an RAF airfield that trained Wellington bomber crews for Bomber Command.

Its current club fleet includes two-seat types such as the Schleicher ASK21 and the DG-505, alongside the Duo Discus for more advanced flying. A Rotax Falke motor glider handles NPPL training, and powered aircraft, microlights and gyrocopters also operate from the same grass strip.

Key Facts

  • Founded 1953 as Coventry Gliding Club, flying from Baginton
  • Moved to Husbands Bosworth in 1965; site dates to a 1943 RAF airfield
  • 1,500 metre grass runway plus a 300 metre asphalt strip for winter
  • Current fleet includes the Schleicher ASK21 and DG-505

The East Midlands Air Support Unit, covering three police forces, has flown helicopters from the airfield’s southwest corner since 1996.

Buying and Selling Aircraft at Husbands Bosworth

Two Regulators, One Sale. Any aircraft here carries a CAA G-registration, but on a glider the last three letters come from a trigraph issued by the British Gliding Association. It’s worth confirming that trigraph matches the paperwork before completing a purchase.

Rough Ground Has a Name Here. The airfield’s ‘boot,’ a rougher patch at the west end used for landings and ground events, sees different wear than the main strip. Ask directly whether an aircraft has flown from it regularly.

Say It’s at Husbands Bosworth. Whether you’re pricing a new aircraft or a used aircraft for sale at Husbands Bosworth, get a proper valuation before you list rather than guessing. The site’s own name carries real weight in gliding circles, so use it rather than just naming the county.
