History of Dassault Aviation
Dassault Aviation is a French aviation manufacturer that was founded in 1929 by Marcel Bloch. In 1971 Dassault Aviation acquired Breguet which was another French aircraft manufacturer that produced aircraft such as the Sepecat Jaguar which was operated by the Royal Air Force.
During the German occupation of France in the Second World War, the Vichy Government imprisoned Dassault’s founder Marcel Bloch and he was held in Buchenwald concentration camp, until being liberated in 1945.
In 1966 the Dassault Mirage took its maiden flight and remained in service with the French Air Force until 2014, when it was replaced by the Dassault Rafale. The Rafale looks similar in appearance to the Eurofighter Typhoon as it’s fitted with canard foreplanes which help control the aircraft in pitch and roll. Other successful jet fighters that were fitted with canards include the Swedish Saab Viggen and the Russian Sukhoi Su 34.
In 1965 Dassault Aviation introduced the Dassault Falcon 20 which was a private jet capable of carrying up to 14 passengers. The smaller Dassault Falcon 10 first flew in 1971 and was referred to as the “Mystère”. Dassault Aviation carried-out research on the larger 30 seat Dassault Falcon 30 which was planned to become a regional airliner, however the company didn’t go ahead with production.
The Dassault Falcon 50 is a super midsize private jet that first flew in 1976 and has seen service as a VIP transport aircraft in several militaries throughout the world.
Dassault Aviation entered the large cabin market in 1984 with the introduction of the three engine Dassault Falcon 900. The aircraft has been continually improved over the years and the Dassault Falcon 900B featured more powerful engines, the Dassault Falcon 900EX features improved engines, a greater range and the Honeywell Primus avionics suite, the Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy is fitted with the Honeywell Primus Epic EASy avionics suite and the Dassault Falcon 900LX is fitted with winglets.
Building on its experience with the Dassault Falcon 900, Dassault Aviation introduced the twin engine Dassault Falcon 2000 in 1993 and the aircraft was designed to carry up to ten passengers. The Dassault 2000 has been continually upgraded and the Dassault Falcon 2000EX is fitted with more powerful engines, the Dassault Falcon 2000EX EASy is fitted with the Honeywell Primus EASy avionics suite which includes synthetic vision and the Dassault Falcon 2000LX has an increased range and is fitted with winglets.
The Dassault Falcon 6X first flew in 2021 and is a large cabin long range business jet that’s planned to complete with the Gulfstream G650ER and the Bombardier Global 7500. The Dassault Falcon 7X first flew in 2005 and is similar to the Dassault Falcon 900 in that they both have three engines. The Dassault Falcon 8X is a development on the Dassault Falcon 7X and has a longer cabin and greater range.
