🚁 Enstrom Helicopter Corporation was founded on 22 December 1959 by Rudolph J. “Rudy” Enstrom. The company is based at Menominee-Marinette Twin County Airport in Menominee, Michigan, USA.
🚁 The first production Enstrom, the F-28, gained FAA type certification in April 1965. It introduced the brand’s fully articulated, high-inertia main rotor known for stable autorotation performance.
🚁 Enstrom certified the 280 Shark in September 1974. The aerodynamically refined 280F followed in December 1980, and the 280FX added fairings and intake changes for improved handling.
🚁 The turbine-powered Enstrom 480 was certified in November 1993, with the upgraded 480B certified in February 2001. The 480B Guardian configuration equips law-enforcement sensors and lighting.
🚁 Enstrom designs route the main rotor pitch-change mechanism inside the hollow mast. This reduces drag and protects linkages, which buyers often cite when comparing training and patrol helicopters.
🚁 After a brief closure in January 2022, new ownership restarted the company in 2022. Enstrom resumed new-build helicopter production in January 2023 and continues to support the global fleet.
