What our Graduates say

“I believe that nowadays it is of extreme importance that pilots are trained in aircraft fitted with glass cockpit displays, i.e. the Garmin G1000 system installed in ACS fleet of Twinstars. The technology behind it & the presentation of information is almost identical to what you would find in a commercial airliner. I had never flown an aircraft this technologically advanced before, so I thoroughly enjoyed flying ACS DA42s!” Steven Thomson, Ryanair

A lot of reviews you will read on flight school websites can almost seem the same as I am sure you will have read many by this point. However I can give my full personal endorsement to what Graeme & his team have built at ACS. I completed my hour building, MEP, ME/IR & CPL with ACS all in minimum hours & with first time passes.  This was mainly down to the dedication & depth of knowledge of the instructors & staff.  It’s not only a school which will do anything they can to make sure you are looked after from start to finish but one which will go the extra mile to ensure their students have the best possible environment to learn in. No need to read any other flight school websites you’ve found where you need to complete training already, I hope you have as good a time as I did. Geoff Scambler, Flybe

Completed my hour building, MEIR & CPL with ACS Aviation at Perth, Scotland throughout 2018. From start to finish the Directors, Head of Training & instructors were extremely friendly & approachable. The instruction I received throughout my MEIR & CPL was second to none & put me In a great position to start my professional flying career. Whether it’s hour building up the Scottish west coast visiting Broadford on the Isle of Skye & Plockton in Lochalsh, flying in turbulent Scottish weather under the hood in the DA42, or planning & flying routes through challenging weather & mountainous terrain on the CPL, flying with ACS from Perth really does set you up well & I’d recommend them to all. Richie Malinowski, Stobart Air

I have recently completed training at ACS for a Multi Engine Instrument Rating & Commercial Pilot License. The quality of training was second to none & my instructors were outstanding, with decades of experience. There has been a great deal of investment in the school in recent times with the addition of a modern Diamond DA42 aircraft & state of the art Alsim42 flight simulator with g1000 ‘glass cockpit’. This, together with an efficient operations department, fantastic training environment & friendly atmosphere make ACS & excellent choice & I’m extremely glad I chose them for my commercial flight training. Paul Collins, Loganair

HOW TO BECOME A COMMERCIAL AIRLINE PILOT

If you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a pilot, flying a commercial aircraft is one of the most rewarding, exhilarating jobs you can do. But how do you become a Pilot? You will read about modular courses, such as Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL), Instrument Rating (IR), Air Transport Pilot Licence Exams (ATPL) distance learning. Which will involve travelling around the world for flight phases, but what is the right path for you? & which way will place you in the best possible position to get a job with the airlines?

We have created a mini guide to help you identify the best route to become a Commercial Pilot; We have included some key points to consider to help you make the best choice about your flight school.

  1. DO YOUR RESEARCH

To qualify as a first officer for an airline, you will need to complete your training with a reputable flight school, like ACS Flight Training. How do you find the right pilot training school for you? We would advise the following:

Finalise your budget

Identify the most practical pilot course for you

Research what, if any, exemptions you qualify for

Speak to students at training schools & read any testimonials or reviews on social media

Seek advice from commercial pilots, airlines (recruitment pages), forums & career pages

Create a shortlist of flight schools by cost, proximity & training location

Look into open days – visit some flight schools & be sure to ask the right questions

  1. CHOOSE A LOCATION

Think carefully about where you’ll learn to fly. The UK’s congested airspace & variable weather conditions mean that those trained here go on to be confident, highly trained pilots. Which is one of the main reasons why Pilots trained in the United Kingdom have a good reputation throughout the world. Warmer climates offer more predictable weather conditions for flight training, which can be useful; however, you would also have to factor travel & accommodation costs if travelling overseas for training.

  1. CONSIDER YOUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Excellent flight instructors train students to become the best pilot possible. Airline recruiters will look at your performance in training, not merely your CPL licence & interview skills. ACS can offer guidance & support to graduate pilots, giving them the skills & confidence to realise their potential. We can also recommend airline assessment & job preparation companies who can assist you with this. These companies will also help with CV development & interview workshops. Read the testimonials of former students of ACS Flight Training on our website or follow us on social media for reviews & school updates.

  1. FIND A SCHOOL WITH GREAT FACILITIES

It’s essential to look for a modern fleet of training aircraft & an excellent safety record. It’s ideal for students to train on similar systems to those found in modern commercial airliners. Flight simulators are also invaluable for training; they enable the instructors to replicate extreme weather conditions & emergencies. They also provide the opportunity to run through lessons learnt in the aircraft & focus training on specific areas – all at the touch of a button.

ACS Flight Training utilizes Cessna, Piper & Diamond aircraft which are equipped with the systems found in modern commercial airliners.

  1. LOOK AT JOB PROSPECTS AFTER QUALIFYING AS A PILOT

Look for dedicated flying instructors who are knowledgeable, approachable, & who create the best environment to help students succeed. Many students choose pilot training as an alternative to university; by taking a commercial pilot training (CPL) course with ACS, students will have the ability to start earning as soon as they qualify, within 18 months of starting their course. Our latest statistics show that over 95% of CPL & MEIR graduates have gained employment as pilots. Students of ACS are now flying for over ten different commercial airlines around the world – including Jet2.com, Ryanair, Loganair, Etihad Airways, Norwegian Airlines, Virgin Atlantic & British Airways.

  1. CONSIDER SAFETY & EFFICIENCY

Student safety should be the priority at your chosen pilot school. ACS Flight Training applies strict operational procedures similar to those adopted & used in Airline operations to ensure their aircraft & simulators are managed efficiently without compromising on quality or safety. ACS is approved & adheres to aviation safety requirements & regulators, including the CAA & EASA.

  1. THE MODULAR TRAINING ROUTE TO THE FLIGHT DECK

Whilst the ACS Flight Training Fast Track ATPL course offers the best value for money, this might not be the solution for you. The important thing is to choose a path you can afford. Good schools work hard to make their courses accessible to people with different budgets & time commitments. At ACS Flight Training, we offer Fast Track course fees paid by monthly instalment.

What are the differences between modular & integrated training?

Integrated training is a training method to complete all your flight training in one go. This training takes student pilots with zero flying experience through to ‘frozen ATPL’ (the air transport licence required to act as a first officer with an airline), in 18 months. Schools offering this training will often set entry requirements & require full payment in advance, & the training costs are usually more than £120,000.

Modular flight training allows students to obtain the flying licences, & theory examinations required, at the students own pace & with various training organisations, if needed. The full modular training course at ACS can take as little as 14-18 months. The advantages of Modular training can mean training costs can be spread & conducted at a pace suited to the student & allow for the opportunity to work between modules plus offers the freedom to fly wherever the student pilot chooses. In contrast, the integrated students have restrictions placed on flying routes for students who already have the PPL & ATPL theory credit. ACS Flight Training is also the only school in Scotland to offer competitively priced CPL, MEP & MEIR training courses in our latest generation Diamond DA42 & Alsim AL42 Flight Simulator; this courses can be completed in 3 months.
