How to Assess an Aircraft’s Value

Home » News » Aircraft For Sale News » How to Assess an Aircraft’s Value

Assessing an aircraft’s value requires a comprehensive and systematic approach, taking into account various factors that influence its worth. Collect all relevant documentation such as maintenance records, logbooks, avionics and equipment lists, damage history and if you can get hold of them, previous appraisals. Consider the aircraft’s age, total time and cycles. Review the maintenance records to assess the aircraft’s overall condition – well-maintained aircraft typically have a higher value. Look for any major overhauls, upgrades or modifications that may have been performed. Research current market conditions for the specific make and model of the aircraft and consider supply and demand dynamics, regional factors and economic conditions that might impact the value. Evaluate the avionics suite and any upgrades – modern avionics and recent upgrades can increase the aircraft’s value. Assess the overall aesthetic condition both inside and out. A well-maintained and visually appealing aircraft may command a higher price. Consider the number of previous owners, its operational history and the quality of the maintenance facilities used. Could the climate or region it has been operating in have affected its value? What was the primary use of the aircraft and would this impact the price? How many similar aircraft are on the market and what’s the highest, lowest and average price? What percentage of aircraft are in each region and how readily-available is your aircraft type in the region you’re trying to sell to?
