Interesting facts about the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet G1
✈ The Vision Jet first flew as the SJ50 prototype in July 2008, the same year Breaking Bad premiered.
✈ The G1 was the first single-engine jet in the world to come with a whole-airframe parachute system (CAPS) as standard equipment rather than an option.
✈ The SF50 earned FAA certification on 28 October 2016, with the first customer delivery following just weeks later on 20 December 2016.
✈ The design won the Robert J. Collier Trophy, aviation’s most prestigious award, for creating the world’s first single-engine Personal Jet.
✈ Power comes from a single Williams FJ33-5A turbofan producing approximately 1,800 lbs of thrust, giving the G1 a service ceiling of 28,000 feet.
✈ Standard seating was for five adults, with the modular cabin able to add a third row of two more seats to bring total capacity up to seven occupants.
Interesting facts about the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet G2
✈ The G2 launched on 8 January 2019, the first major overhaul of the Vision Jet since certification.
✈ RVSM certification raised the ceiling to FL310 and pushed maximum cruise speed to 305 KTAS, a five knot gain over the G1.
✈ Autothrottle became standard on the G2, a rare feature to find on a single-pilot jet at this price point.
✈ The upgraded Perspective Touch+ flight deck brought faster processors and higher resolution displays than the original G1 avionics suite.
✈ Cirrus introduced upgraded Intelligent Batteries and reworked the cabin soundproofing, both aimed at owner-pilot comfort rather than raw performance.
✈ Safe Return Emergency Autoland debuted on the G2 in early 2020 as an optional extra, making the Vision Jet the first jet in the world certified with autoland technology.
Interesting facts about the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet G2+
✈ The G2+ was unveiled at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh in July 2021, positioned as a mid-cycle refresh rather than a full new generation.
✈ Its headline upgrade is a newly optimized FADEC thrust profile on the same Williams FJ33-5A engine, delivering up to 20 percent more takeoff thrust without a change of engine.
✈ The gain is most dramatic at hot and high airports. Cirrus cited a Santa Fe departure needing just 3,000 feet of runway on a hot day, down from around 4,100 feet on the G2.
✈ Safe Return Emergency Autoland, optional on the G2, became standard equipment on every G2+.
✈ The G2+ was the first Vision Jet to offer Gogo InFlight WiFi, along with new colourways including Titan Grey, Volt and Bimini Blue.
✈ Safe Return also received EASA and UK certification the same year the G2+ launched, opening it up to European operators.
Interesting facts about the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet G3
✈ The G3 was unveiled in February 2026, arriving after more than 700 Vision Jets had already been delivered worldwide.
✈ Its redesigned third-row bench swaps the old two child seats for a configuration that fits two adults plus a child, while total seating stays at seven.
✈ The G3 is the first Vision Jet with Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications, letting pilots receive and acknowledge ATC clearances as text messages instead of by voice.
✈ New 3D SafeTaxi and alert-linked electronic checklists were added specifically to reduce single-pilot workload on the ground and in the cockpit.
✈ Exterior changes include black de-ice boots and brighter Cirrus Spectra LED wingtip lighting, making the G3 visibly different on the ramp before you even check the tail number.
✈ Cirrus counts more than 30 individual refinements in the G3, including single-handed aft seat adjustment, hand-wrapped Alcantara seatbacks, and a personal device mount at every seat.
