AvPay: Connecting Aircraft Enthusiasts with Aviation Museums Worldwide!

Aviation Museums can vary in size, from just a few artefacts to a whole range of aircraft from various time periods. They can be privately-owned, government-run or charity-run by a group of volunteers. The great thing with aviation museums that have actual aircraft (as opposed to aircraft models and other artefacts), is that there’s always a story behind each  aircraft on display. Take the Spitfire, at The Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum. On first glance, it may just look like another aircraft. But consider that over 20,000 Spitfires were manufactured between 1936-1948. As of 2021 it’s estimated that only around 240 are still in existence. The Spitfire at the museum is therefore one of only 1.2% of Spitfires that were built, still in existence. That makes it pretty rare! The aircraft even has a story, having entered service at RAF Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire, an airbase with close links to the AvPay team. It then went on to operate initially against road and rail targets throughout Holland and Germany, before being damaged in an undercarriage-related landing mishap. Once being repaired, the aircraft operated out of Diepholz in Germany, where it’s reported to have been responsible for the downing of several German aircraft, including a Messerschmitt BF109, Heinkel 111 and a Focke Wulf FW 190. Now consider the hundreds of aviation museums there are throughout the world and the thousands of stories behind each aircraft, that are waiting to be discovered!
