Beechcraft is an American Aircraft Manufacturer that was founded in 1932 and is headquartered in Kansas, United States. Beechcraft produce a wide range of aircraft types from private jets, turboprops, single engine piston to multi engine piston aircraft and is often referred to being one of the “Big Three” aircraft manufacturers (Beechcraft, Cessna and Piper). Setting-up shop in a former Cessna factory, Beechcraft’s first aircraft model was the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggarwing. Most bi planes of the time such as the Boeing Stearman and the De Havilland Tiger Moth had the lower wing positioned behind the upper, however this configuration was the opposite with the Model 17, hence the name “Staggarwing”. Over 700 Staggarwings were produced until production was ceased in 1949. Beechcraft also produced the Beechcraft Model 18 which was used widely throughout the Second World War as a training aircraft, transport aircraft and as a light bombing aircraft. Following World War Two Beechcraft started to produce the famous Beechcraft Bonanza, which is a six seat Single Engine Piston aircraft still in production today. Over 17,000 Bonanzas have been built, making one of the most popular private aircraft of all time. In 1963 the Beechcraft King Air flew for the first time and is still being produced today. The King Air is a twin engine turboprop aircraft and has been used for a variety of roles from cargo transport to VIP passenger transport. There are several models of the King Air, such as the King Air C90 King Air E90, King Air F90, King Air G90, King Air B100, King Air 200, King Air 250 and King Air 350. A King Air B90 was even used during the presidency of President Lyndon Johnson and was designated as “Air Force One” when the president was aboard. One of Beechcraft’s latest model is the Beechcraft Denali, which is a Single Engine Turboprop being developed to compete with the Pilatus PC12, Daher TBM 930 and the Piper M Series of aircraft. Another recent addition to the Beechcraft line-up is the Beechcraft T6 Texan II, which is a Single Engine Turboprop designed to be an advanced trainer. The Texan II is currently in service with several militaries including the United States Air Force and is similar in appearance to the Shorts Tucano which was used by the Royal Air Force, before being replaced by the Texan.
