Lancair is an American aircraft manufacturer that was founded in 1981. The company produces a number of kit build aircraft and is renowned for producing a number of high performance Single Engine Piston aircraft. The Lancair 200 first flew in 1984 and was supplied as a kit build. The aircraft featured a sleek aerodynamic design and its retractable undercarriage meant it had a superb performance. The type was developed into the Lancair 320 which had a more powerful engine and a larger fuselage. This was then developed into the Lancair 360. Other popular models from Lancair include the Lancair ES, which was a four seat Single Engine Piston kitbuild that was fitted with fixed landing gear. The aircraft is similar in appearance to the Cirrus SR20 and is fitted with gull wing doors. The Lancair IV was a modernised version of the 320 and the Lancair Propjet was a turboprop version of the Lancair IV, which was capable of cruising at 325 knots. The Lancair Evolution first flew in 2008 and came in two options – piston powered or turboprop powered. The aircraft features a pressurised cabin and has a service ceiling of 28,000 feet. The Lancair Mako first flew in 2017 and was a development on the Lancair IV. The aircraft was designed to compete with the Cirrus SR22 and the Cessna TTX. The latest aircraft in the Lancair range is the Lancair Barracuda, which is a two seat version of the successful four seat Mako.
