When it entered service, the 1,650mph capable F111 Aardvark was a technical marvel with its afterburner, sweeping wing and terrain following radar. Able to operate between 200 and 66,000 feet, the aircraft saw service in both the United States Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force, where it was affectionately known as the pig. In 1974 the USAF would introduce its second sweep wing bomber, the B1B Lancer. Other successful sweep wing aircraft include the F14 Tomcat and the Panavia Tornado.
