Booker Gliding Club Dee Valley14th October

Yesterday produced some very confusing wave, today was more straightforward – we had a lot of fun on both days. Jim White finally got his Diamond Height today – for those unfamiliar it is a height gain of 5000m, a bit unnerving being that far from the planet. Here are a selection of pics.

It was chilly last night, so there was some ice scraping to do first thing. Not much wind so the wave wasn’t going very high, but it was very pleasant touring the local sights.
Simon Jones converted to the ASW19, which also counts as a first single seater flight at Aboyne. No pic, we will have to stage one tomorrow!

Patience rewarded. Yesterday started with cloud down to the ground, but eventually the air dried and the southerly wind blew a gap in the cloud. New arrivals Jo and Matt were treated to some very special sunset views up to 10,000ft.

Booker Gliding Club from Deeside Gliding ClubAnother interesting day – a slow start as the clouds lifted, and then it was a case of trying to work out what on earth was going on as the wind blew from every direction in turn and the wave shifted around. The Duo had four interesting flights, and Steve and William gave it a go too. Some great views, see pics………

Yesterday the trailer park was full of gliders rigged and ready to go, so there were some early launches, but the westerly wave kept going all day, and improved as the air dried out and the cloud dispersed. Our members were too busy flying to do much by the way of taking photos but there are a handful.

Still having fun up here in the Caringorms. Here are a few more pics of mountains – such a privilege to be able to do this.

Booker Gliding Club Expedition to Cairn Gorm24th October

For the last day of the expedition the weather produced some nice southerly wave, enabling Jeremy and Richard to do a bit of a cross country in the Duo Discus. Steve and Geoff also flew. And then there was just the long drive back to Booker – with memories of an excellent expedition and some exceptional flying.
Next stop Denbigh, in March.
