ABOUT US

A UK based, intelligence-led geo-spatial mapping company, Artio Geomatics is the response to the need for flexible, cost-effective and efficient surveying solutions.

Specialising in the gathering and analysis of aerial imagery, our team generates maps and 3D models of features and landscapes for a range of purposes. Whether it be to reveal new data to inform a land survey, or to generate a 3D model for volumetric interpretation, we work closely with our clients to deliver a product that works best for them.

Services

ORTHOMOSAICS
High resolution ortho-rectified imagery and analysis

Deploying the survey-grade Phantom 4 RTK, we gather and stitch together hundreds of aerial images, generating geo-located orthomosaics with a visual Ground Sampling Distance (or resolution) of 3-5cm per pixel, and “true accuracy” down to the centimetre.

This means the imagery we provide can be used to thoroughly interrogate an area of land from the comfort of an office desktop using your preferred GIS software. We can thereby spare you and your company the need for expensive and time-intensive ground team surveys, or supplement other surveying techniques to greatly improve their efficiency.

We can cover areas of any size, as long as our pilot is able to identify safe launch sites throughout the area. Our largest single orthomosaic so far is 392Ha.

DIGITAL 3D MODELLING
For conducting 3D assessments of land, buildings, structures, features or sites.

Data is essential for informed decision-making. With Artio, you can access your land like never before, viewing it from every angle and conducting 2D and 3D measurements from the comfort of your own office.

Using a combination of intelligent flight planning and free-flying, our pilot can capture ‘nadir’ (top-down) imagery of sites of any size. We then feed the imagery into our software to precisely render a geo-located digital model of the area, for you to access and interrogate, or for our technicians to provide the data that you need.

DSM, DTM & CONTOUR MAPPING
Grey-scale elevation maps & contouring.

Once our software has processed the aerial imagery captured by our pilot, every smallest topographical detail of the land is rendered into a 3D “points cloud”. Recording true elevation data while we’re on-site means we can then translate this topographical data into a 2D map (or, more accurately, a “2.5D” map, as it displays 3D data), annotated with highly detailed contour data, down to 2m intervals between contours.

With our software, we are furthermore able to categorise and remove certain features from the model. This means we can remove trees, shrubbery or buildings and present a map that shows the ‘interpolated’ (estimated) topographical features beneath them (this is known as a Digital Terrain Map, DTM), or keep such features in to show the area as it appeared on the day we captured it (known as a Digital Surface Map, DSM).

AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING
Supplementary to our surveying packages, we offer everything you’d expect from traditional drone photography.

Ever since the drone boom of 2015-2017, aerial photography has become more and more prevalent in modern media – and with good reason! Achieving shots and camera movements that even 10 years ago would have only been possible with a state-of-the-art Hollywood crane, or even a helicopter, for a fraction of the price, has become a prospect that people have been increasingly unable to turn down.

Enter Artio, whose drone pilot has been experimenting with aerial filming since 2015, when the commercial drone industry was very much in its infancy. As well as having demonstrated his skills as a pilot, with dozens of logged flight hours without incident, and with a background in publicity and the arts, he has continually developed his knowledge and understanding of the new ‘dialect’ that aerial photography adds to the rich language of the camera. He strongly believes it’s not enough to merely shoot footage and make each shot look as good as possible, but that the story that connects one shot to the next, and that each picture conveys, is an equally important aspect that’s often overlooked by the modern assembly-line approach to media production.
