Avidyne Helios is a new multifunction SBAS flight management system designed for the rigorous demands of corporate, military & special mission helicopters. It sets a new standard for integration in rotorcraft navigation systems. Avidyne Helios FMS provides full Required Navigation Performance (RNP) & Area Navigation (RNAV) capability, including Localizer Performance with Vertical (LPV), Lateral Navigation/Vertical Navigation (LNAV/VNAV), LNAV-Only, & Approach Procedures with Vertical (APV) approach modes.

The Avidyne Helios is a dzus-mount flight management system that meets TSO-C146c for full SBAS/LPV approach guidance, & is an approved GPS position source for ADS-B. Avidyne Helios features easy-to-use flight planning, one-touch departure, airway, & arrival navigation, & Avidyne’s patented GeoFill™ waypoint nomination. Avidyne Helios features a full QWERTY-style dedicated keyboard along with touch-screen hybrid touch user interface that provides easy map panning & flight plan editing. Its extensive I/O is designed to integrate with existing equipment in the aircraft including a long list of EFIS, PFDs, CDIs, HSIs, remote sensors, & autopilots, & it is also an approved ADS-B GPS position source with numerous transponders. Avidyne’s GPS Legacy Avionics Support (GLAS™) provides a direct interface to legacy Collins Proline 21 & Honeywell Primus EFIS systems for vertical guidance during approach operations. This unique integration capability enables EFISs certified before the availability of LPV approaches to have coupled approach guidance on these & other SBAS approaches.

Avidyne Helios’ innovative implementation of Jeppesen’s chart services displays electronic terminal & approach charts & airport diagrams & includes a geo-referenced overlay of ownship present position & current flight plan. With one-button access to the worldwide library of Jeppessen ® electronic charts & airport diagrams, Avidyne Helios dramatically reduces pilot workload & enhances situational awareness. Charts databases are quickly & can be easily updated via the USB port on the Atlas bezel using virtually any standard USB memory stick.

Entering & editing fllight plans has never been easier than with the Avidyne Helios. It features easy-to-use flight planning with easy airway navigation, Avidyne’s exclusive GeoFill™ waypoint nomination, & full autopilot integration. Easy clearance-language flight plan entry, including SIDS & STARS, Procedure Previews, one-touch Holds, & rubberband flight plan editing, reduce workload & heads-down time. Avidyne Helios can store up to 99 flight plans of 128 waypoints each for quick access, & up to 1,000 LAT/LON & Rho/Theta-defined user waypoints. Its cross-fill capability seamlessly automates the process of synchronizing flight plans in dual FMS installations.

Avidyne Helios provides an optional integrated VHF communication & navigation radio in the same small enclosure. VHF communication capability provides a powerful 16-watt transceiver with frequency nomination & station identification. It also includes the ability to monitor the standby channel at the same time as the active channel.

The integrated VHF navigation system provides VOR navigation, as well as localizer & glideslope approach capability, which is fully integrated & automated with the FMS. It automatically decodes the identification of VORs & localizers, & insures that the proper frequency is tuned as part of the automated approach process.

All Avidyne Helios systems include integrated WiFi & Bluetooth® connectivity. Numerous tablet application developers support the Avidyne Helios wireless protocol. Foreflight® & many other apps are capable of receiving GPS position, ADS-B weather & traffic, XM Weather, & other data from the Helios system. Integrated wireless
connectivity allows pilots to transfer flight plans from tablet Apps including ForeFlight. Imagine being able to plan a flight, file a flight plan, get a clearance, & transfer the flight plan to your FMS, seamlessly. & all Helios systems have a built-in USB charger so you can insure your devices have adequate battery levels.
