I think it’s safe to say progress has been fantastic on our Lightning repaint, and on the restoration of our Gannet. Great work from our small team of enthusiastic volunteers!

De Havillany Vampire at Carlisle 2We were very pleased to welcome John Rattenbury to the museum today. John flew our de Havilland Vampire T11 (WZ515) during his flying training at 8FTS, RAF Swinderby, 60 years ago. He then went on to fly the Victor B1 with 10 Sqn at RAF Cottesmore, arriving there just in time for the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
John also flew WZ507 during his training – the only Vampire still flying in the UK, and a former Solway Aviation Museum exhibit! It was a pleasure to reunite John with one of his old steeds.
