Wings Airline Academy cockpitAs the airlines begin their recruitment drive, some predicting needing hundreds of pilots a year for the next 5 years, it seems that now is a good time to start your airline pilot training journey. But with the UK splitting from EASA and some incredible opportunities becoming available, such as US green cards being offered to commercial pilots… Which is the best licence to go for?

How can future pilots make sure they don’t limit their career and employment options and have the whole world open to them as a globally licenced pilot?

Wings Airline Academy have produced the truly unique, Global Airline Pilot Licence (GAPL) which allow their students to complete a combined flying course to become licensed as a commercial pilot in the USA (FAA licence), EU (EASA Licence) and the UK (CAA licence).

Their CEO said ‘A good pilot always has a solid alternative plan at all times and we believe that having 2 or even 3 licences could become a massive employment advantage for the globally minded student pilot’. ‘With EASA splitting from the UK and the USA carriers offering pilots large incentives to join them, it seems sensible to have a broader pilot education and be qualified for global operations’.

The Global Airline Pilot Licence is around 15% more than doing individual ATPLs but of course you are getting three licences rather than one. The academy also offers individual FAA, EASA and UK licences utilising the Wings Airline Academy’s operations in Florida, France, Belgium and the UK to achieve their students’ licencing requirements. It uses the same aircraft types across its bases of PA28s, DA40s and DA42s to ensure seamless and efficient learning.

Wings Airline Academy clever controlRecent graduates have joined American Airlines and Ryanair alike so the employment scope is exciting as the airlines recover strongly from the pandemic and have experienced large scale retirements in many legacy airlines. This ‘retirement bubble’ has been predicted for many years but has been overshadowed by the pandemic and almost been forgotten about. But it is real and it is coming and could catch many airlines out, which opens up a great opportunity for employment for the correctly prepared pilot graduate.

‘It’s all about seniority in the airline game, so it is best to be at the front of the queue and with recruitment ramping up cross the board, we believe now is the time to train, as by the end of training our students will be well placed to step into their first airline seat’.
