So it has been a busy few days! The application for the accommodation side of things is coming along nicely & should, hopefully, be ready to submit very soon now.  I have launched a series of low-cost courses primarily aimed at some locals to improve their photography before holidays & I have my first client booked in on that, plus I have run an advert for property photography to try & drum up some local trade.

Today has been a bust due to the boys being unwell but tomorrow I am out working in Alness then the remainder of the week is in Inverness itself.  Hopefully Spring is going to be a bit busier!

Surprise Win!

Last night I just happened to win the External Photo of the Year category of the National Property Photography of the

Year Awards 2021!  I wasn’t expecting to win, I am utterly gobsmacked still given the tough competition… & the fact that I only entered the profession in September… but I will take that as a vote of confidence!

I have been inundated with messages & phone calls this morning as a result, things seem to be slowing down now so I am finally getting around to posting the news here & updating the socials.

What next?

Well, I am hoping that this gives me a boost career wise & leads to more commercial work coming through the doors.  It is also a massive psychological boost particularly as I am prone to imposter syndrome & low self-esteem at the best of times!   Now I am moving on to my L&scape Photographer of the Year campaign as well as a couple of other bits & bobs.  I really need to get on with the drone training upgrade, I am investigating elevated pole photography too for when the weather is too inclement for the drone & may invest in the necessary equipment very soon & then it is really working on my courses & workshop plans so I can get those started soon – on which note I am thinking of running some “locals” courses at a massively discounted price, possibly very soon!  Watch this space or drop me an email if you are interested!

Where oh where is winter!

This winter has been very mild, very green &… currently… very windy!  This is frustrating as I had a few shots lined up for wintery scenery that just haven’t happened.  It wouldn’t be so bad if the wind would drop as I have a flight to make to shoot some video that needs calm conditions, & we could also get out & explore a bit better.

Not to worry though, I always get a big down through February.  It is (for me) the hardest month, the days are still short & the weather is usually terrible – January has the promise of winter conditions to come to keep you going through the post Christmas slump & March brings the promise of early spring sunshine & warmth.

Anyway, loads on just now.  We are still awaiting the first draft of the site plan so that we can start the ball rolling on the huts, I have a little bit of work waiting in the wings too although not much (other than the constantly delayed flight) booked as yet & I have some plans to work on for increasing awareness of my offerings to a wider market.  I have a couple of entries to submit too over the next few weeks so I am currently shortlisting for that – currently only my processed files, but I may go back & check out some alternatives that never saw it to completion as there may be some overlooked gems!

I may even do a bit of writing.  Play some guitar.  Chill out.

But right now… coffee is the most important thing.  I am shattered this morning but still have an awards ceremony to attend this evening & somehow marry that in with getting the eldest boy to Scouts which starts as the ceremony finishes….
