Fournier was a French glider and motor glider manufacturer that was founded by Rene Fournier in 1959. Fournier produced a number of motor glider models such as the Fournier RF 4, which was a single seat motor glider that first flew in 1966. The aircraft is fully aerobatic and was constructed out of wood. The glider also featured a retractable mainwheel, which helped improve the aircraft’s aerodynamic performance. The Fournier RF5 first flew in 1968 and was a two seat motor glider that was developed from the RF4 design. The RF5 can be derigged to help it be stored in confined spaces. In the 1980s Fournier worked with German manufacturer Grob to produce the Fournier RF 9. Grob was renowned for producing aircraft for the Royal Air Force such as the Grob 115 Tutor and the Grob 109B Vigilant, which was used by the Royal Air Force Volunteer Gliding Squadrons until the type was scrapped in 2019.
