WELCOME TO G7!

We were excited to attend the European launch of the new SR series G7 over the weekend and my first impressions were extremely positive. This is a significant upgrade in functionality and presentation over the Generation 6. Externally G7 is very familiar sharing the same silhouette as the G6, but once you open the doors and step inside, it is clear that this a totally revised aircraft. First impressions from the cockpit are that this is now a propeller version of the SF50 mixed with a high end luxury car. This is jet class avionics in a single engine piston.

The dual Garmin Touch Controllers are now the main avionics interface offering large, high-resolution 14″ displays. The touchscreen controllers have intuitive icons, and expanded system integration such as split screen on both PFD and MFD, allowing IFR charts or checklists to be displayed on the PFD while the map or all new systems pages are displayed on the MFD.

The Cirrus Perspective Touch+ includes CAS-linked checklists with a scroll wheel for easy navigation, cleared taxiway routing displayed by arrows, and 3D SafeTaxi showing buildings and infrastructure.

The side stick is redesigned to be similar to that of the SF50 and includes a stick shaker for stall awareness and protection. Flap airspeed protection monitors the airspeed of the aircraft to ensure flaps are not deployed or retracted if the aircraft is traveling too fast or too slow. We now have a push to start aircraft ignition switch and auto fuel transfer every 5 gallons. The fuel tank selector is now hidden under a cover. The general feeling within the cabin is that it is solid, higher quality and has better sound deadening than the previous generations. First reports do suggest that the cabin is quieter in flight and this is most likely due to the revised interior. Doors shut with a reassuring weight of quality and the whole cockpit has been thoughtfully and ergonomically designed. From integrated solid cup holders, iPhone and tablet cubby hole in the dash to a very automotive style climate control panel on the centre console which seems immediately familiar.

Its a clever philosophy, the SR20 & SR22T are now running the same avionics fit as the SF50 meaning transition through the range will be intuitive and efficient. Airbus started this with the A319/320/32/A330 family and it makes pilot differences and transition training more efficient, cost effective and ultimately safer. Cirrus have aimed to make their product range more accessible to an entire generation who have not yet learned to fly, from iPhone to iPad, touch screen electric car to personal aircraft, the philosophy is the same, intuitive and easy to use. I think they have achieved this admirably with Generation 7.

The new G7 demonstrator will be on display at Daedulus Aviation at Birmingham Airport on Thursday 18th & 19th of January and at Oriens at Biggin Hill on Saturday and Sunday 20th and 21st. If you’d like to experience the new G7 first hand do get in touch to arrange an appointment. [email protected]

CK AVIATION LAUNCH A NEW WEBSITE

We are excited to announce the launch of our new website which has been refined and streamlined to reflect more accurately the work that we do and the quality of the brand that we are proud to represent. Click on the logo below to take a look.

ATO NEWS – NEW AIRCRAFT & INSTRUCTORS

We are all extremely proud to welcome a new aircraft to our Cirrus Training Centre at Wycombe Air Park. G-LRMJ is new SR22 naturally aspirated G6 and is available for Cirrus transition training, IR(R) and CB-IR training. MJ is a top of the range SR22 with FIKI, Garmin Perspective + avionics, air conditioning and DME, she has very low hours, so if you’d like to experience the thrill of flying a nearly new aircraft get in touch to book in a transition course.
Together with our 2019 SR22T we now have two G6’s within the fleet, turbo and naturally aspirated to cater for differing training requirements. It is now evident that we need a white aircraft for the red, white and blue. So watch this space for an air to air photo shoot with some national pride!

A BIG WELCOME TO OUR NEW TCI MATT COULING

I would like to say a warm welcome to Matt Couling our latest Training Centre Instructor. Matt has been a regular feature at Wycombe Air Park as a great friend and customer of CK Aviation and we extremely proud of his achievements, transitioning into his own SR20 in 2021 Matt has since then gained a night rating, IR(R), CB-IR, Class Rating Instructor, Instrument Rating Instructor, Training Centre Instructor and night Instructor tickets. Its safe to say Matt has been working his back side off to join us on the team and we are lucky to have him, his military experience flying the Royal Navy Lynx helicopter and his relaxed and jovial approach make him an exemplary instructor – I hope you all have an opportunity to fly with him in the coming year.
