Cornwall Air Ambulance was tasked to Padstow on Sunday (29 May) to help an injured fisherman.

Cornwall Air Ambulance incident in PadstowThe charity’s critical care paramedics were part of a multi-agency response to an incident in Padstow Harbour at 6.50pm.

One man on board a fishing trawler fell from height into a confined space. Cornwall Air Ambulance worked alongside colleagues from HM Coastguard rescue teams, Cornwall Fire & Rescue, South Western Ambulance Service & the RNLI.

Critical Care Paramedics Thomas Hennessy Jones & Martin Bunt treated the patient for a head injury at the scene.

Thomas said: “The priority was to get the patient off the boat as quickly & safely as possible. It was quite a difficult extraction from the vessel to the quayside but made possible thanks to the great teamwork of all the services involved.”

The patient was transferred to the helicopter by a land ambulance, then airlifted by Cornwall Air Ambulance to Derriford Hospital.
