The Altimaster Galaxy Extreme was originally developed for pond swoopers who prefer a mechanical mechanism & an analogue dial face. It has since gained popularity among military end-users because of its familiarity with their current (non-waterproof) devices & smaller overall profile.

Skydiving equipment is specialized to ensure the safety and functionality of a jump. There are several key pieces of equipment used in skydiving. These are a Parachute System which consists of the main parachute and the reserve parachute. The main parachute is the primary canopy used during a jump, while the reserve parachute is a backup in case of a malfunction with the main chute. The container or harness is the wearable part of the system that holds the parachute canopies, lines, and other components. It includes a harness worn by the skydiver, as well as a container for stowing the canopies and deployment systems. An Automatic Activation Device (AAD) is a safety device that automatically deploys the reserve parachute if the skydiver is unable to do so. It activates when it detects certain altitudes and descent rates, enhancing safety. Jumpsuits are specialized clothing worn by skydivers to reduce air resistance during freefall. They can be made from various materials, including nylon or spandex, and are designed to improve stability and control. A helmet is essential for safety and protection. It shields the head and provides a secure attachment point for audible altimeters, cameras, and communication devices. Goggles protect the eyes from wind, debris, and the elements during freefall. They are typically worn over the eyes or incorporated into the helmet. Altimeters measure the altitude and display the skydiver’s height above the ground. There are analog and digital altimeters available, and many jumpers use both to ensure redundancy. Audible altimeters are small devices that produce audible alerts or beeps at predefined altitudes, allowing the skydiver to receive altitude information without looking at the altimeter. The pilot chute is a small parachute deployed to extract and deploy the main canopy. Skydivers use a “ripcord” to release the pilot chute, initiating the deployment sequence. There are Cutaway and Reserve Handles, which are used to initiate emergency procedures. The cutaway handle is used to release the main parachute in the event of a malfunction, while the reserve handle activates the reserve parachute. The risers are straps that connect the canopy to the harness/container. Lines are the cords attached to the canopy that control its shape and flight. Proper maintenance of risers and lines is crucial for safe skydiving. An AAD Cutter is a device on the reserve parachute container that is activated when the AAD initiates a reserve deployment. It severs the closing loop, allowing the reserve parachute to deploy. In some types of skydiving, such as tandem jumps or high-speed freefall disciplines like wing-suiting, a drogue chute is deployed to stabilize the freefall and control descent rate. For wingsuit skydiving, specialized wingsuits are worn, which allow jumpers to glide horizontally during freefall. Skydivers who want to capture their jumps may use camera equipment, including helmet-mounted or body-mounted cameras, to record their experiences. It’s important to note that skydiving equipment is subject to strict regulations and regular inspections to ensure it’s in proper working order. Skydivers are often required to have their equipment inspected and maintained by certified riggers and technicians. Safety is a paramount concern in the sport of skydiving, and using well-maintained and properly fitted equipment is crucial to ensuring safe jumps.
