The Hawker Hunter is a versatile and highly successful jet aircraft that served in various roles such as air superiority, ground attack, reconnaissance and fast jet trainer. The Hunter first flew in July 1951, just 10 years after the German invasion of Russia. Powered by a single Rolls Royce Avon turbojet engine, the Hunter was known for its impressive speed and capabilities, which made it one of the fastest fighter jets of its time. Combined with its 30mm Aden cannons and air-to-air missiles, the Hunter was a formidable opponent. The Hunter is distinctive with its sweep-wing design and T tail configuration and was exported to more than 20 countries worldwide, making it one of the most exported British military aircraft. Owing to its excellent aerobatic characteristics, the Hunter was used by the RAF’s Black Arrows display team, which held a record for the largest number of aircraft looped in formation.

Hawker have a long history of producing excellent aircraft, such as the Hawker Hurricane. Do you think the Hunter was their most successful design?
