Description

The Private Pilots License is the first step to become a qualified pilot. Book a flying lesson with us and you will learn to fly with one of our qualified flying instructors. On completion of this course, you will be able to fly as ‘pilot-in-command’ of a light aircraft.

As it is an EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) License, it is valid throughout the UK and Europe and is acceptable worldwide subject to individual national requirements.

It is recommended that you have a Trial Flying Lesson before committing to a course. You will know straight away whether or not flying is for you. There is a minimum age restriction of 17 at the time of application for the PPL license, but you may start training at the age of 14.

Location

Conducted at our school based at Retford Gamston Airport. Some parts of the course take you to other airfields to experience the cross-country element of being a pilot.

What will I need?

Initially, you don’t need any equipment. Throughout the course you will need to purchase some items such as books, rulers, pens, maps etc. We will advise you on what to purchase as the course progresses.

How long will it take?

The course can be done at your own pace to suit. Typically it takes between 1-3 years to complete at a leisurely rate. Flying lessons can be arranged to suit your own pace and schedule.

What are the requirements of the course?

-Be able to pass an aviation medical examination (Class 2)

-A minimum of 45 flying hours, a mix of solo flying and with an instructor

-9 theory exams on various topics (we do offer 1:1 ground school)

-A solo cross-country flight with a minimum of 150nm and 3 airfields

-A successful flight test with an examiner at the end of your course.

Please note that the above are only minimums and you may need a few more hours to complete the course.

How much will it all cost?

The flying element will cost a minimum of £6,975 (£155 per hour)

What can I do on the completion of this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will be able to act as Pilot-In-Command (PIC) of a single-engine piston (SEP) aircraft. It is an internationally recognised license allowing you to fly anywhere in the world with the correct authorisations.

You have the option to hire our aircraft or we can help you purchase your own.

A night rating and Instrument Rating (Restricted) can be added to your licence allowing you to fly at night and in poorer weather conditions than a standard PPL licence.

Please contact us to book a flying lesson or if you have any questions.
