An instrument rating is added to your private or commercial pilot certificate upon satisfactory completion of your training course, a pilot knowledge test, & a practical test. An instrument rating permits you to fly without visual references to the ground, horizon & other landmarks.

Description

Instrument Rating Course Includes:
• Aircraft Rental (Minimum 40 hours)
• Ground Instruction (Estimated 25 hours)
• Flight Instruction (Estimated 15 hours)

Requirements:
• Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
• Be able to read, speak, write & understand the English language
• Hold a current FAA medical certificate
• Receive & log ground training from an authorized instructor
• Pass a knowledge test
• Accumulate appropriate flight experience
• Receive flight instruction & demonstrate skill
• Complete a practical (flight) test, which will be given as a final exam by an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)
Aeronautical Experience
• 50 hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command, of which 10 hours must have been in an airplane.
• 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time of which 15 hours are flight training from an instrument instructor.
Instrument time includes:
• 3 hours of instrument flight training within 2 calendar months before the practical test.
• One cross country flight in an airplane with an authorized instructor, that is performed under IFR that involves a flight
of 250 nautical miles.

Please note ground training will occur before & after every flight.
Length of training course will be in accordance with student’s availability, skills, & weather conditions.
Normal Course length takes 1-2 months.
