The Private Pilot, Single-Engine Course includes:
Total Time: Minimum of 40 Hours
• 20 hours minimum of flight training with a flight instructor
» 3 hours of cross country flight training in a single engine airplane;
» 3 hours of night flight training in a single engine airplane, that includes at least:
a) 1 cross country flight of over 100 nm total distance; &
b) 10 take-offs & 10 landings to a full stop (with each involving a flight in the traffic pattern)
» 3 hours of flight training by reference to instruments in a single engine airplane; &
» 3 hours of flight training in a single engine airplane within the 60 days prior to the practical test
• 10 hours minimum of solo flying
» 5 hours of solo cross country flying;
» 1 solo cross country flight of at least 150nm total distance with full stop landings at 3 points &
one segment of at least 50nm between take-offs & landings;
» 3 take-offs & landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower

Requirements:
• You will need to be able to hold a medical certificate to act as Pilot in Command of any aircraft. Make sure you
are able to receive a medical certificate from an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) before investing time & money.
• Be at least 16 years of age to hold a Student Pilot Certificate & fly solo in an aircraft
• Be at least 17 years of age to hold a Private Pilot Certificate
• Be able to read, speak, write & understand the English language
• Receive & log ground training from an authorized instructor
• Pass a knowledge test
• Accumulate appropriate flight experience, a total of 40 hours of flight instruction & solo time
• Receive flight instruction & demonstrate skill
• Complete a practical (flight) test, which will be given as a final exam by an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)

Please note ground training will occur before & after every flight.
The national average for students to complete their private pilot training is around 70 hours total flight time.
Length of training course will be in accordance with student’s availability, skills, & weather conditions.
Normal Course length takes 4-6 months.
